On March 8, 2025, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed inaugurated SkyWin Aeronautics Industries in Addis Ababa. This company specializes in manufacturing unmanned aerial vehicles intended for both civilian and military applications. The establishment of this industry signifies Ethiopia’s commitment to achieving technological self-reliance, particularly within the security domain.
During the inauguration, Prime Minister Abiy emphasized that Ethiopia now possesses the expertise to produce, utilize, and export drones, marking a substantial advancement in the nation’s capabilities. He remarked, “Today, as we inaugurate Sky Win Aeronautics Industries, we recognize that the locally manufactured drones before us were unimaginable just a few years ago.”
