Mansour Lawal, brother of Abubakar Lawal, has called for a thorough investigation into his brother’s death in Uganda, initially attributed to a motorcycle accident but later clarified as a fall from a mall balcony. Ugandan and Nigerian authorities are involved in seeking the truth surrounding the incident.
Mansour Lawal, the elder brother of the late Abubakar Lawal, has called on both the Nigerian government and Ugandan authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the tragic circumstances surrounding his brother’s death. The incident, which occurred last month in Uganda, has raised concerns that warrant a detailed inquiry.
Abubakar Lawal’s death was initially reported as a motorcycle accident; however, Ugandan police later clarified that he reportedly fell from a shopping mall balcony while visiting a Tanzanian friend in Kampala. The young footballer, aged 29, was buried in his home state of Sokoto after being honored by his club, Vipers SC, and its supporters.
In a heartfelt video shared by Vipers SC, Mansour Lawal emphasized the necessity of justice, stating, “I am also urging the Nigerian government and the Ugandan government to please work with the Nigerian embassy to ensure justice prevails.” He expressed gratitude towards the Nigerian and Sokoto State governments for their support during this difficult time.
Authorities in Uganda have stated that they are actively investigating the incident. The Nigerian government, through the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission and the Nigerian High Commission in Uganda, has committed to uncovering the facts surrounding Lawal’s death. Preliminary reports from the Uganda Police revealed that Lawal arrived at the shopping mall where he allegedly fell while on a visit to his friend.
Ambassador Shama Shanga of the Nigerian Embassy has reportedly engaged with local authorities, demanding a thorough investigation. Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman of NiDCOM, stated, “This is pathetic and appears suspicious. We demand a thorough investigation. No cover-up at all. This is so sad.” Lawal transitioned from Wikki Tourists to Nasarawa United in 2019, later joining As Kigali in 2020 before his move to Vipers SC in Uganda.
The tragic death of Abubakar Lawal has led to a demand for thorough investigations by both Nigerian and Ugandan authorities. His family seeks justice, emphasizing the need for transparency in the inquiry into his passing. The Nigerian Embassy and officials are actively involved in ensuring a detailed examination of the circumstances surrounding this incident, which has sparked widespread grief and concern.
