On March 7, 2025, the Central African Republic Armed Forces (FACA) celebrated the graduation of 438 new soldiers, including 38 women, who completed six months of military training provided by the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF). This initiative is part of an ongoing defense cooperation arrangement between Rwanda and the Central African Republic aimed at bolstering the nation’s security.
Over the last two years, the RDF has successfully trained numerous CAR soldiers, including an initial group of 512 graduates in November 2023 and a second cohort of 634 in August 2024. Training continues for the country’s quick reaction force troops, integral to an ongoing security sector reform aimed at establishing a well-equipped force capable of addressing national security needs.
The graduation ceremony took place at Camp Kassaï military barracks in Bangui, under the auspices of Prime Minister Félix Moloua, representing President Faustin Archange Touadera. The event was significant, drawing attendance from military leaders including Maj Gen Vincent Nyakarundi and Brig Gen Ronald Rwivanga, who acknowledged the collaboration’s substantial impact on national defense capabilities.
Prime Minister Moloua commended the military cooperation, stating that it had reinforced FACA’s abilities, noting, “We are pleased with the military cooperation that has helped reinforce FACA. Our government is satisfied with the work done.” He emphasized the military’s capability to protect the nation and its people. Furthermore, Gen. Mamadou recognized RDF’s training as vital for enhancing FACA’s capacity to address security challenges.
Maj Gen Vincent Nyakarundi reiterated the commitment to providing ongoing training and career development for FACA personnel, emphasizing the importance of producing skilled soldiers ready to defend CAR’s integrity in various contexts. Graduates also demonstrated their proficiency during the event, showcasing skills acquired throughout the rigorous training program.
The graduation of the 438 new soldiers from the Central African Republic Armed Forces highlights the successful collaboration between the Rwanda Defence Force and FACA. This initiative not only strengthens national security but also signifies a commitment to developing a professional military force in the Central African Republic. Continued training efforts will further empower FACA in facing security challenges effectively.
