Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has criticized the cooperation agreement between President Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga as a betrayal of Kenyans. He affirmed the opposition coalition’s commitment to its principles during the People’s Dialogue Forum, where key figures, including former Chief Justice David Maraga, are discussing national issues.
Kalonzo Musyoka, the leader of the Wiper party, has publicly criticized the recently established cooperation agreement between President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga. He regards this development as a betrayal to the Kenyan populace. Kalonzo emphasized on social media that this pact represents a significant deviation from the principles held by the opposition coalition which remains devoted to the Kenyan people.
In his statement, Kalonzo referred to the Memorandum of Understanding unveiled at KICC as a profound betrayal of Kenyans. “The people’s loyal coalition will never trade its principles for temporary comfort,” he remarked on his X (formerly Twitter) account. He supplemented his claims with photographs from his involvement in the ongoing People’s Dialogue Forum at Uhuru Park, highlighting the opposition’s dedication to advocating for Kenyans’ interests.
During his visit to the forum, Kalonzo engaged with numerous participants, including civil society leaders who have been discussing national matters since the preceding Wednesday. Notably, former Chief Justice David Maraga attended and spoke at this initiative, which is set to conclude on Saturday. Last month, Kalonzo had previously urged Raila to align himself with the opposition rather than support the current government.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, a significant figure in the opposition coalition, also cautioned Raila against forming an alliance with President Ruto. In contrast, Raila dismissed the notion during a tour in Wajir County, referencing Gachagua’s previous comments about setting metaphorical traps to hinder him from reaching State House. He stated, “I told him that is impossible.”
The historic MoU between Ruto and Raila, signed on Friday, aims to tackle a minimum of ten critical national issues, including the pervasive challenge of corruption. Furthermore, they urged for the full implementation of the Nadco report, which emerged from bipartisan negotiations in 2023. However, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah quickly opposed this report’s enactment, asserting, “Anybody supporting Nadco must be removed from public life. Raila Odinga and William Ruto have declared war on the future of this country,” during his speech at the People’s Dialogue Forum.
In summary, Kalonzo Musyoka has vocally condemned the recent cooperation agreement between President Ruto and Raila Odinga as a betrayal of the Kenyan people. He maintains that the opposition coalition will uphold its principles and actively engage in defending citizens’ rights. The ongoing People’s Dialogue Forum serves as a platform for addressing national issues, reflecting the opposition’s commitment to societal matters even amidst political realignments.
