Argentina’s Industrial Output Shows Continued Recovery in January 2025

Argentina’s industrial output rose 7.1% year-on-year in January 2025, marking the second month of growth after 18 months of contraction. Key sectors such as machinery, manufacturing, and food showed growth but at a slower pace. Conversely, basic metals continued to decline, and industrial production fell 1.3% on a monthly basis.

In January 2025, Argentina’s industrial production experienced a notable growth of 7.1% year-on-year, indicating a second month of expansion following an extended 18-month period of contraction. However, this growth rate showed a slight decline when contrasted with December’s 8.4% increase.

Most major sectors showed positive growth, albeit at a slower pace. For example, the production of machinery and equipment rose by 10.9%, down from 17.7% the previous month. Other sectors such as manufacturing increased by 25.1%, and food and beverages saw 6.6% growth, both less than their respective December figures. Notably, the basic metals sector continued to contract with a decrease of 7.9%.

In addition, the oil refining, coke, and nuclear fuel sector grew by 6.4%, improving upon December’s 4.1%. Similarly, the wood, paper, publishing, and printing sector showed a slight increase to 1.1%, compared to 0.3% in the prior month.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, industrial production experienced a decline of 1.3% month-on-month, reversing the previous month’s gain of 0.2%.

Argentina’s industrial sector is showing promising signs of recovery following an extended period of decline. Although growth remains moderated compared to late 2024, several key industries are experiencing positive output trends. However, the decline in overall production on a month-to-month basis indicates that challenges remain for sustained growth.
