Intense clashes between the Sudanese army and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have resulted in significant violence, particularly in Khartoum and Sennar State. Clashes between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have intensified in Khartoum and Sennar State, resulting in significant violence. According to local sources, fighting erupted early Wednesday, with heavy weaponry utilized and concerning reports of explosions and plumes of smoke witnessed in Khartoum.
In Sennar State, RSF engagements have reportedly occurred in the Al-Dali and Al-Mazmum areas, which serve as the group’s last strongholds in the region. Unfortunately, the violence extends to the Abu Shouk displacement camp in North Darfur State where six civilians have been reported killed due to RSF shelling, according to a local relief committee.
Darfur’s Governor, Arcua Minnawi, condemned the actions of the RSF, labeling their siege of El-Fasher and the starvation strategy against civilians as egregious humanitarian violations. Furthermore, the Khartoum State Health Ministry highlighted casualties including one child killed and five injured in their assessments of artillery attacks in Omdurman’s residential zones, particularly the Al-Thawra neighborhood.
In response, Sudan’s armed forces reported a successful coordinated operation to eliminate RSF forces in multiple regions, reclaiming towns across White Nile, Sennar, and Blue Nile states. Army spokesperson Nabil Abdullah confirmed that strategic areas such as Dali and Al-Mazmum were retaken, granting the army full control over Sennar State while the RSF retains a minimal presence in surrounding areas.
The ongoing conflict since mid-April 2023 has led to staggering casualties, with over 20,000 reported deaths and an estimated 14 million displaced. However, research estimates indicate the death toll may be as high as 130,000, underscoring the severe humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
