Dave Musker, ICC Safety and Security Manager, praised Pakistan’s security arrangements for the Champions Trophy 2025, stating it will showcase a positive image globally. Despite some teams’ reservations and the BCCI’s refusal to participate, the tournament was successfully hosted. However, Pakistan’s national team did not advance past the group stage, finishing last in their Group A.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) Safety and Security Manager, Dave Musker, commended the Pakistani authorities for their exemplary arrangements during the Champions Trophy 2025. He stated that the event will project a very positive image of Pakistan and its security establishments on a global scale. The tournament concluded successfully following the second semi-final between South Africa and New Zealand, held at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.
Musker expressed gratitude to the Pakistani police, Rangers, and army for their comprehensive security measures provided for the teams and ICC personnel. He acknowledged concerns from certain teams regarding traveling to Pakistan prior to the tournament’s start but emphasized that the security institutions delivered full cooperation throughout the event.
Despite the logistical successes, the tournament faced friction as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) declined to send its national team to Pakistan, citing security fears. This refusal led to a standoff between the BCCI and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Therefore, the final will occur at a neutral venue in Dubai, featuring a match between India and New Zealand on March 9, 2025.
Though the tournament was historic as it was hosted by Pakistan for the first time in nearly three decades, the Pakistan national team did not perform well, being eliminated without advancing to the semi-finals. They finished at the bottom of Group A, having recorded two losses and one match against Bangladesh washed out.
In other cricket news, Rizwan will lead the ODI squad, while Shaheen Afridi has been omitted from the 50-over format. India’s Kohli remains the top scorer, with Ellis and Zampa claiming two wickets each in their respective games. Looking ahead, the semi-final will see the Australian team facing India in Dubai, promising an exciting match for fans.
The Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan was marked by strong security arrangements, highlighting a positive image of the country internationally. Despite facing challenges like team withdrawals, the ICC praised the efforts of local authorities. However, the Pakistani team’s disappointing performance overshadowed the achievements of the event. As cricket continues to evolve, future tournaments may benefit from this experience in enhancing cooperation and security among nations.
