Chinese Ambassador Zhou Ding Launches ‘Bright Journey’ Cataract Programme in Zimbabwe

The “Bright Journey” Programme, attended by Chinese Ambassador Zhou Ding and Zimbabwe’s Minister of Health Douglas T. Mombeshora, aims to provide cataract surgery to over 600 patients in Zimbabwe. The initiative reaffirms both nations’ commitment to health cooperation, celebrating their diplomatic relations’ 45th anniversary.

On February 26, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Zhou Ding, participated in the Launch and Donation Ceremony for the China-Aid “Bright Journey” Programme, aimed at cataract surgery in Zimbabwe. The event was attended by Douglas T. Mombeshora, Minister of Health and Child Care, along with a team of Chinese medical experts and representatives of cataract patients.

Ambassador Zhou emphasized that the “Bright Journey” Programme exemplifies the Health Partnership Action for Health initiative proposed at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit. He highlighted that this program marks a significant occasion, celebrating the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Zimbabwe, and is set to aid over 600 patients in regaining their eyesight. He also reiterated China’s commitment to fostering a global health community and enhancing medical collaboration with Zimbabwe.

Minister Mombeshora remarked that the programme not only restored the eyesight of many Zimbabwean cataract patients but also reinstated their dignity and hope. He conveyed that the initiative reflects the principle that health transcends borders, serving as yet another testament to the enduring friendship between Zimbabwe and China.
