During an Iftar party, BNP Secretary General Fakhrul Islam Alamgir underscored the need for a return to democracy via free elections, expressing hope for international respect for Bangladesh’s sovereignty and cooperative progress.
On Thursday, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) articulated that the citizens of Bangladesh deserve a future devoid of fear, oppression, and political instability. During an Iftar party held in honor of diplomats at The Westin Hotel, BNP Secretary General Fakhrul Islam Alamgir emphasized the necessity for a decisive return to democracy through fair and transparent national elections.
Mr. Alamgir reaffirmed the party’s dedication to fundamental democratic principles, including accountability, the rule of law, good governance, justice, and respect for human rights, as aligned with the United Nations Charter. He announced that an interim government would facilitate a seamless transition to democracy following the conclusion of the Awami League regime led by Sheikh Hasina.
Fakhrul expressed the hope that Bangladesh’s international partners would uphold the tenets of non-interference and sovereignty while advocating for peaceful dispute resolutions, aimed at achieving mutual growth. He stated, “We want to work closely with our partners to ensure the collective progress of our region through democracy and liberal trade partnerships.”
The BNP leader conveyed the party’s intention to ensure that the future political landscape of Bangladesh would be determined solely by its populace. The event was attended by a significant number of diplomats, including British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke, former US Ambassador John Danilovich, and ambassadors from numerous countries including Germany, China, and India.
The BNP has articulated a vision for Bangladesh that prioritizes a fear-free, democratic future, insisting on a return to fair governance. By advocating for non-interference from global partners, they aim to foster regional cooperation through democratic values and sustainable trade partnerships. The party’s commitment to upholding human rights and empowering the citizens underscores its approach to shaping the country’s political destiny.
