TikTok’s ‘Safer Together’ Initiative Enhances Digital Literacy in Iraq

TikTok has launched the “Safer Together” initiative in Iraq, aimed at promoting digital literacy and media awareness among youth aged 13-18. The initiative will reach over 33,250 participants and includes workshops and resources in Arabic and Kurdish. TikTok, in collaboration with the INSM Foundation for Digital Rights, has launched the “Safer Together” initiative in Iraq to advance digital awareness and media literacy among youth. This initiative specifically targets Iraqi individuals aged 13-18, their families, and teachers with the goal of educating over 33,250 participants across 15 provinces.

The program features interactive workshops and educational resources designed to align with local cultural contexts, providing materials in both Arabic and Kurdish. Furthermore, it promotes university partnerships to facilitate student-led research and awareness campaigns, fostering responsible digital behavior among the youth.

Fatih Kafadar, Head of Government Relations and Public Policy for Turkiye and the Levant at TikTok, underlined the platform’s commitment to enhancing digital security. He stated, “Our goal is to ensure TikTok remains a secure and supportive space for young users,” emphasizing the importance of empowering adolescents, their parents, and educators with essential digital literacy skills.

Hayder Hamzoz, Executive Director of the INSM Foundation for Digital Rights, echoed these sentiments. He remarked, “Creating a safe and informed digital environment is essential,” asserting that equipping the community with digital skills is pivotal for fostering responsible online engagement and bolstering community resilience.
