Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister, will attend an OIC meeting in Jeddah to denounce a proposal aimed at displacing Palestinians from Gaza. He will advocate for the restoration of Palestinian rights and Israel’s withdrawal from occupied territories. Meanwhile, Arab leaders support an Egyptian plan for Gaza reconstruction that seeks to avoid displacement and establish governance structures for aid management.
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar is scheduled to participate in a special meeting of foreign ministers of OIC member states in Jeddah on Friday. In this session, he will denounce an “unacceptable” proposal aimed at displacing Palestinians from Gaza. The proposal has intensified concerns regarding the future of over two million Palestinians in the region, particularly in light of the ongoing Israeli aggression that has deteriorated conditions in Palestine.
The OIC’s Extraordinary Session will focus on concerted actions in light of the worsening situation for Palestinians due to continued violations of their rights. Mr. Dar will reaffirm Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, advocating for Israel’s full withdrawal from all occupied territories, including Jerusalem, while condemning the proposal seeking to displace Palestinians.
Mr. Dar will stress the importance of restoring the “inalienable rights” of the Palestinian people, including their right to return to their homeland and to establish a viable and sovereign Palestinian state within the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif designated as its capital. This stance contrasts sharply with recent proposals that endanger the Palestinian population.
In a related development, Arab leaders recently endorsed an Egyptian reconstruction plan for Gaza, estimated to cost $53 billion, which aims to prevent any displacement of the Palestinian population. Furthermore, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi confirmed that Egypt is collaborating with Palestinians to create an administrative committee tasked with overseeing Gaza’s affairs during the transitional period following the conflict.
The ongoing dynamics also involve the Palestinian group Hamas, which has been at odds with the Palestinian Authority (PA). Hamas expressed support for the Egyptian committee proposal despite the significant fatalities resulting from the recent conflict. To date, more than 48,000 Palestinians have reportedly lost their lives due to military actions in Gaza.
Since 1967, Israel has occupied Palestinian territories encompassing both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. Pakistan maintains a policy of non-recognition of Israel and advocates for an independent Palestinian state founded upon internationally recognized parameters, emphasizing pre-1967 borders and Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
The upcoming OIC session in Jeddah highlights Pakistan’s strong opposition to any proposal that displaces Palestinians from Gaza, reaffirming its support for Palestinian rights and statehood. Ishaq Dar’s participation symbolizes a commitment to standing against Israeli aggression and reinforcing the call for the restoration of Palestinian sovereignty. Significant developments, like the Egyptian reconstruction plan, indicate regional efforts aimed at stabilizing Gaza without displacing its inhabitants.
