Emmanuel Makandiwa has called for the return of G40 members, declaring them harmless and beneficial for Zimbabwe. He respects leaders like Walter Mzembi and sees their reintegration as a blessing. Additionally, he encourages Zimbabweans abroad to return, emphasizing the country’s potential and opportunities. Makandiwa’s position reflects his active involvement in national politics.
Emmanuel Makandiwa, a noted cleric, has called for the safe return of members from the G40 faction of Zanu PF, describing them as harmless. Many G40 leaders, including former ministers such as Saviour Kasukuwere and Walter Mzembi, have been living in self-imposed exile due to fear of persecution from President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration following the factional disputes within the party in 2017.
During a recent sermon at his basilica in Chitungwiza, Makandiwa expressed respect for Walter Mzembi, emphasizing that he poses no threat. He advocated for the return of these individuals to Zimbabwe, suggesting that their reintegration would benefit the nation. “They are harmless. They are pure. If they can allow them back into their country, it will be a blessing for your nation,” he stated.
Makandiwa highlighted the political context that led to the exile of G40 members, noting that since Mnangagwa’s leadership began, former officials like Mzembi and Kasukuwere faced corruption charges, which they claimed were politically motivated. He recounted having warned former President Robert Mugabe of impending changes during his tenure.
In addition to addressing the G40’s return, Makandiwa encouraged Zimbabweans abroad to come back home, citing the abundance of opportunities in the country. “Zimbabwe is full of blessings. Bring your children who are in the diaspora. They are blessings that have left,” he urged. Makandiwa’s involvement in Zimbabwean politics is noteworthy, as he has publicly endorsed Mnangagwa in the past.
Emmanuel Makandiwa has urged for the safe return of G40 faction members, asserting their harmlessness and emphasizing the potential benefits for Zimbabwe’s national unity. He has also called for Zimbabweans residing abroad to return, highlighting the nation’s inherent opportunities. His remarks reflect his ongoing engagement with political matters in Zimbabwe and promote reconciliation within the country following years of political strife.
