In diplomatic efforts, Canada’s Global Affairs office summoned the Rwandan High Commissioner to convey its disapproval of Rwanda’s actions, citing a breach of DRC’s sovereignty. Concurrently, Canada announced $15 million for humanitarian assistance to aid those affected by the crisis in the DRC, underscoring a commitment to support vulnerable populations.
Canada condemned the M23 militant group’s takeover of the Goma and Bukavu regions, as well as criticizing the presence of the Rwanda Defence Force in the DRC. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau asserted, “Canada welcomes the efforts of countries in the region… to find a peaceful path forward.” He urged all parties to demonstrate dedication to peace and to address the humanitarian needs resulting from the conflict.
