Leslie Mpofu, the executive director of TKCS, has advised motorists, especially truck owners and drivers, to meticulously plan their routes to minimize delays. Affected border posts include Stockpoort/Parr’s Halt, Makgobistad/Phitsane Molopo, Bray, Groblersbridge/Martins Drift, and Pontdrift.
Traffic will now be rerouted to borders along the Trans Kalahari Corridor (TKC), including Tlokweng/Kopfontein, Pioneer/Skilpadshek, and Ramatlabama. “It is anticipated that the closure of these borders will increase traffic at the TKC borders, causing delays and long queues,” stated Mpofu, stressing the importance of planning journeys in light of expected congestion.
Mpofu also pointed out potential challenges stemming from this traffic rerouting, including environmental and sanitation issues, littering, and insufficient potable water for truck drivers. He emphasized the necessity for border authorities to swiftly address these concerns for the wellbeing of transporters.
Moreover, Mpofu cautioned travellers regarding possible service delivery protests occurring on the N4 route, particularly between Zeerust and Skilpadshek.
