Azerbaijan is allegedly attempting to interfere with the normalization process between Armenia and Turkiye, according to Armenian Speaker Alen Simonyan. He insists that Armenia’s relations with the two neighboring states should remain separate and expresses hope that Turkiye will acknowledge Armenia’s peace initiatives without being influenced by Azerbaijan.
On Tuesday, Armenian Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan expressed concern regarding Azerbaijan’s attempts to undermine the normalization process between Armenia and Turkiye. He emphasized that the relations between Armenia and Turkiye are distinct from Armenia’s interactions with Azerbaijan. Simonyan argued that there is an opportunity for Turkiye to engage without Azerbaijan’s interference.
He stated, “I regret that Azerbaijan has taken hostage the Armenia-Turkiye relations, the Armenian-Turkish border issue, the Armenian-Turkish normalization, and is attempting to have influence. This is very bad, and I think the respective Turkish officials also understand this.” Simonyan affirmed Armenia’s commitment to peace and its readiness to continue pursuing constructive measures in this regard.
Simonyan also articulated hope that Turkiye would respond positively to Armenia’s peace overtures, urging for clearer expressions from Turkish officials to demonstrate a mutual willingness to engage in normalization processes without external pressures.
