The Presidency issued a broader statement appealing to citizens to refrain from disseminating inflammatory propaganda on social media platforms, which could exacerbate existing tensions. Concerns have grown regarding the security situation in Nasir County since mid-February, following confrontations between the SSPDF and the White Army. Tensions heightened with the government’s decision to deploy additional forces, including members of the Agwelek militia group, which has led to local apprehensions about the potential targeting of civilians or disarmament campaigns.
In Western Equatoria State, instability has surged, particularly after President Kiir’s unilateral decision to remove SPLM-IO-affiliated Governor Gen. Alfred Futuyo, contributing to the region’s unrest and insecurity.
