The ceremony attracted over 50 attendees, including members of the Legislative Chamber and Senate, representatives from government bodies, international organizations, media personnel, and diplomats accredited in Uzbekistan. Notably, Akmal Saidov, the Director of the National Human Rights Center, emphasized the importance of the Geneva Conventions in International Humanitarian Law (IHL), stating that their translation is vital for enhancing legal awareness in society.
Ambassador Konstantin Obolensky remarked on Switzerland’s historical commitment to the Geneva Conventions, highlighting the necessity of international law, especially amidst global instability. Biljana Milosevic from the ICRC underscored the contemporary relevance of humanitarian principles, applauding Uzbekistan for its initiatives in promoting these vital values.
The Geneva Conventions, established on August 12, 1949, are critical treaties that set international humanitarian standards. The translation into Latin script will improve access to and understanding of these legal instruments within Uzbekistan. The event also featured a video presentation and a photo exhibition titled “Dialogues on Humanity,” accentuating the humanitarian significance of the Conventions.
