MDR Officially Endorses Representative Samuel Kogar for Nimba By-Election

The MDR has endorsed Representative Samuel Kogar as its candidate for the April 2025 by-election in Nimba County. This decision, announced amid a large gathering of supporters, reflects Kogar’s leadership potential and the party’s dedication to continuity following the passing of founder Prince Yormie Johnson. Kogar has vowed to uphold Johnson’s legacy and strengthen the party’s presence in Nimba County.

Ahead of the forthcoming by-election scheduled for April 22, 2025, the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) has officially declared Representative Samuel Kogar of District 5 as their candidate. A substantial gathering of supporters, including 21 members of the MDR National Executive Committee, convened to express their endorsement of Representative Kogar, who previously belonged to the People’s Unification Party (PUP) before joining the MDR.

MDR Vice Chairman Kelvin D.J. Msttadi articulated that the party’s endorsement of Representative Kogar stemmed from a formal request made by him, coupled with an assessment of his leadership record. He noted that the executives of the MDR meticulously evaluated Kogar’s prior performance before arriving at this crucial decision.

In his remarks, MDR National Chairman Cllr. Cooper Kruah urged all members of the Nimba community, including representatives from all nine electoral districts, to unify in support of their endorsed candidate. He asserted that the MDR has retained its strength, despite the loss of its founder, former Senator Prince Yormie Johnson, emphasizing that the legacy of the late senator should continue.

Chairman Kruah stated, “The MDR Party belongs to Nimba. We must stand together and speak with one voice.” He cautioned against divisive influences that seek to dilute their electoral strength and implored independents to reconsider their ambitions in favor of supporting Kogar.

Expressing his gratitude, Representative Samuel Kogar thanked the MDR supporters and the citizens of Nimba for their overwhelming backing. He reiterated his dedication to fostering unity within the party and expressed his intention to enlist additional representatives from the county, including members from the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), to amplify MDR’s impact.

Kogar urged voters to prioritize candidates based on their demonstrated ability to meet the community’s needs rather than personal appeal or popularity, asserting, “We have the ability to represent the people of Nimba County. Do not let the dream of the late Senator Prince Johnson fade.” He pledged to honor Senator Johnson’s legacy by ensuring that MDR remains a formidable political presence in Nimba County.

The Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction has endorsed Representative Samuel Kogar as their candidate for the upcoming by-election in Nimba County, reinforcing their commitment to unity and the legacy of the late Senator Prince Yormie Johnson. With calls for party loyalty and a focus on leadership based on capability, Kogar is determined to elevate the party’s influence in the region.
