Gachagua Asserts GEMA’s Role in Shaping Kenya’s Future Government

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua claims that Gikuyu, Embu, Meru, and Akamba (GEMA) communities will be instrumental in forming Kenya’s next government, independent of opposition leader Raila Odinga’s involvement. While expressing confidence in GEMA’s collective strength, Gachagua critiques President Ruto’s dependency on Odinga’s influence. He is also advocating for an opposition coalition to challenge Ruto in the upcoming elections, particularly targeting Gen Z voters to secure victory in 2027.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asserted that the Gikuyu, Embu, Meru, and Akamba (GEMA) communities will play a crucial role in shaping the next Kenyan government, regardless of the involvement of opposition leader Raila Odinga. Speaking at a church service in Machakos, he expressed confidence that GEMA’s unity would ensure their political strength moving forward.

Gachagua emphasized, “GEMA ndiyo dawa ya Kenya. GEMA itaunda the next government,” indicating that their collective power would significantly influence upcoming elections. He assured supporters that their numbers were sufficiently strong to secure victory in the 2027 general elections, stating, “We have looked at the numbers and they are good, with or without him (Raila).”

In a direct critique of President William Ruto, Gachagua claimed that Ruto’s political survival depends largely on Odinga’s influence. He predicted a challenging re-election campaign for Ruto in 2027, asserting, “Life support machine ya Ruto ni Raila saa hii. Akizima, amekwisha,” suggesting Ruto’s downfall would be imminent without Odinga’s support.

Moreover, Gachagua stated that if GEMA communities remain united, they could lead Kenya for the next century, proclaiming, “If we unite as GEMA, we shall be in power for the next 100 years,” as he underscored the potential of collective governance. He has also indicated a willingness to collaborate with political figures opposed to Ruto.

Discussing the prospect of partnering with Odinga, Gachagua remarked, “I do not understand Raila’s intentions; it is his choice whether he wants to be with Ruto and water down his political legacy or join the side of liberating this country.” He believes that the younger Gen Z voters, critical in 2022, will not support Ruto in the next elections.

Gachagua has actively engaged with key political leaders, such as Wiper Party’s Kalonzo Musyoka and Martha Karua, in an attempt to form a strong opposition coalition. This effort conveys a significant political realignment as the 2027 elections approach, signaling potential shifts in Kenya’s political dynamics.

In conclusion, Rigathi Gachagua asserts the significance of the GEMA communities in establishing Kenya’s upcoming government while highlighting his opposition to the existing leadership. His remarks reflect a strategy to unify these groups and draw younger voters, aiming to dismantle President Ruto’s influence in the next elections. Gachagua’s growing political maneuvers indicate a potential shift in Kenya’s political environment as 2027 approaches.
