The talks highlighted the notable 70% increase in trade turnover, reaching $274 million last year. The Kazakh Foreign Minister expressed optimism regarding the potential for exporting high-value products such as petrochemicals and food items to Morocco. Additionally, the impending implementation of a visa-free regime was discussed, positioning Morocco as the first African country to establish such an agreement with Kazakhstan.
Discussions also covered critical issues such as food security and the participation of Morocco in the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS). Minister Nurtleu expressed gratitude for Morocco’s interest and emphasized the importance of the IOFS’s Charter ratification. The meetings additionally included planning for high-profile events such as the upcoming Astana International Forum and the 8th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, inviting Moroccan participation.
Digitalization emerged as a focal point, with Kazakhstan’s interest in collaborating on Morocco’s “Digital Morocco 2030” initiative. The Kazakh IT sector is poised to present innovative solutions in e-government and cybersecurity. Cultural ties were also reinforced through the successful performance of the Academic Philharmonic of Astana and the Grand Orchestra of Rabat, igniting interest in bilateral cultural exchanges.
In tourism, both parties recognized significant potential and agreed to advance the Agreement on air communication by 2025, exploring direct flight options. A Joint Communiqué was issued, affirming both sides’ commitment to fortifying Kazakh-Moroccan relations across political, economic, and humanitarian domains. Minister Nurtleu concluded his visit by honoring the Mausoleum of King Mohammed V, further emphasizing the importance of the visit.
