Israeli military bulldozers have begun demolishing homes in the Nur Shams refugee camp near Tulkarm, reportedly under the pretext of constructing a new road. Homeowners were given minimal notice to evacuate, leading to significant displacement among residents. The escalation is part of an ongoing period of military aggression that has impacted thousands, with intense military presence in the region.
On Saturday, Israeli military bulldozers commenced demolition of several residences at the Nur Shams refugee camp, located east of Tulkarm. Reports from the official news agency Wafa indicate that the Israeli forces deployed heavy “D10” bulldozers and initiated the demolitions near the Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Mosque, accompanied by reconnaissance aircraft flying at low altitudes.
This escalation follows a notice issued by Israeli authorities five days prior, announcing the demolition of eleven homes to make way for a road connecting the camp square to the Al-Mansheya neighborhood. The affected homes belong to families including Yusuf, Jibali, Mar’i, Abu Shlbaia, Irani, Shihab, Yunis, and Ghannam.
Subsequent to the demolition notice, the Israeli forces reportedly allowed the homeowners a mere three hours to return to the camp and remove their belongings before the demolitions began. Additionally, raids were executed by Israeli forces in the Jabal Al-Nasr neighborhood, compelling residents to evacuate quickly and often under duress, as live ammunition and sound bombs were used to intimidate them.
The ongoing Israeli aggression has prompted significant displacement in the camp, with women, children, the elderly, and the sick fleeing their homes. Particularly affected areas include Al-Mansheya, Al-Mas’akh, Jabal Al-Nasr, and Al-Salihyeen, resulting in over 5,500 individuals relocating to shelters and the homes of relatives across Tulkarm city and its suburbs.
This latest surge in violence is part of an extended aggressive campaign that has persisted for 33 consecutive days. The Israeli forces have intensified their military operations, deploying additional vehicles, bulldozers, and infantry units, while simultaneously enforcing a siege on the Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps and converting numerous residential buildings into military positions.
The demolitions of homes in the Nur Shams refugee camp highlight the severe humanitarian impact of the ongoing Israeli military actions in the region. With thousands displaced and the use of aggressive tactics to force evacuations, the situation continues to deteriorate, emphasizing the urgent need for resolution and aid in addressing the humanitarian crisis faced by residents of Tulkarm and its refugee camps.
