The Jamaica Rifle Association (JRA) successfully hosted the United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) Grand Prix series at its headquarters in Mountain View, Kingston, on February 27, 2025. This event, part of a year-long series running alongside the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) series, highlighted exceptional talent across five competitive divisions, making it an exhilarating day for participants and spectators alike.
Competitors showcased their skills in the Limited, Production, Open, Limited Optics, and Carry Optics divisions on Saturday. The Range Master, Rohan Wilson, announced the scores later that evening, revealing Ryan Bramwell leading the Limited Optics division with 789 points, earning a notable margin over his closest competitor, Petrano Belafonte, who scored 705 points. Marlon Stephenson secured third place with 513 points after a solid performance.
In the Production division, World Shoot hopeful Anthony Johnson clinched the top position with 709 points, closely followed by Josimar Clarke with 706 and Rohan Wallace who finished with 640 points. The Open division also saw fierce competition, where division winner Alvin Amore triumphed, relegating the consistent Alrice Palmer to third place. Thomas Jones secured victory in this division with 737 points, marking an impressive outing in the absence of Darin Richards.
Chris Hart emerged victorious in the highly competitive Carry Optics division, outperforming Robin Rickhi and Dufton Shepherd. Amidst these achievements, the JRA is setting its sights on future competitions, with nine competitors preparing for the Panamanian Open Handgun Championships next month. Among them are top female shooters Shayon Francis, Yeonie Campbell, and Sasha-Gay Mullings, who will represent Jamaica.
Looking ahead, the National Grand Prix series will continue next month at the Mountain View Avenue Range, with the IPSC series scheduled over ten exciting stages, providing further opportunities for local marksmen to showcase their talents and prepare for upcoming international challenges.
