President Anura Kumara Disanayake convened with H. E. Mr. Akio ISOMATA, the Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka, on the morning of the 27th at the Presidential Secretariat. During this meeting, Ambassador Isomata extended a formal invitation for President Disanayake to visit Japan and expressed appreciation for the new government’s policy framework.
The Ambassador highlighted Japan’s initiatives to include Sri Lanka in a newly launched security cooperation assistance program. An extensive dialogue ensued regarding the ongoing Japan-Switzerland-South Africa program aimed at promoting national reconciliation in communities affected by the 30-year conflict.
Moreover, discussions touched upon the status of Japanese investments in Sri Lanka, along with progress in digital economic initiatives and airport investments. The Ambassador reiterated Japan’s dedication to supporting Sri Lanka’s Digital Transformation Program and outlined intentions for investments in port, aviation projects, and digitalization initiatives.
The meeting also included prominent attendees such as Dr. Duminda Hulangamuwa, Advisor to the President on Economic and Financial Affairs, as well as senior officials from the Presidential Secretariat and the Japanese embassy. The Presidential Media Division is tasked with communicating the President’s views and actions effectively through various media channels.
The meeting between President Disanayake and Ambassador Isomata marks an important step in strengthening bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Japan.
