PRI President Alejandro Moreno highlighted this decision on X, stating that the party “marks the beginning of a new stage in its international relations, reaffirming its recognition and solidarity with the legitimate struggle of the Moroccan people to defend their sovereignty over the Sahara.” This marks a notable shift from PRI’s previous recognition of the Polisario Front during its governance in 1979.
Moreno’s announcement followed a meeting with Rachid Talbi Alami, President of Morocco’s House of Representatives, who was leading a delegation in Mexico City.
