TEHRAN, Feb 27 (Bernama) — Malaysia and Iran expressed a strong commitment to humanitarian efforts aimed at addressing the violence faced by Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria. This commitment was highlighted during a 30-minute courtesy meeting between Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian.
During their discussions, they reaffirmed their united stance against terrorism in these regions, particularly concerning proposals by Israel and others to displace the Palestinian people from Gaza. They are also monitoring the upcoming Arab Emergency Summit on March 4, as this summit’s resolutions will be significant for discussions at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s Council of Foreign Ministers’ meeting scheduled for March 7.
Moreover, previous reports indicated that Egypt is organizing the Emergency Arab Summit to develop a plan for restoring Gaza without resettling Palestinians, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial proposal regarding Gaza. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has confirmed this initiative, which aims to restore Gaza while keeping Palestinians in their homeland.
Further elaborating on the situation, Mohamad noted that the developments in the Middle East are critical and expressed Malaysia’s concern regarding these affected areas. He mentioned that proposals from Egypt and Saudi Arabia on managing the situation in Gaza after the ceasefire are being considered, emphasizing the hope that this ceasefire will enable discussions for Gaza’s reconstruction.
The discussions between Malaysia and Iran underscore a mutual commitment to addressing humanitarian issues in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria, with significant actions scheduled at upcoming regional summits. Both nations are vigilant regarding resolutions that impact the future of Gaza and the Palestinian populace. Malaysia remains proactive in supporting initiatives for restoring peace and stability in the region, underscoring its commitment to humanitarian aid.
