Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints across South America recently engaged in disaster relief efforts, motivated by the example of service set by their Savior. In Brazil, Latter-day Saints delivered thousands of donations to assist flood victims, while volunteers in Paraguay prepared food kits for local communities. Additionally, members in Bolivia refurbished a community building, showcasing their commitment to serving those in need.
Following devastating floods and landslides in early January, Brazil was significantly impacted, particularly in Minas Gerais, São Paulo, and Paraná, displacing many individuals. In response, the Church promptly mobilized, providing substantial humanitarian aid totaling over 2,000 food baskets, 3,000 gallons of drinking water, 2,500 hygiene kits, and more to affected areas including Coronel Fabriciano and Ipatinga.
In Coronel Fabriciano, the Church donated 890 food baskets and 1,780 gallons of water to assist over 2,000 affected individuals, while in Ipatinga, they provided 500 food baskets and 100 mattresses to those displaced by the storms. Similar support was extended to other severely affected cities such as Paranaguá, Campinas, and Jundiaí, demonstrating the Church’s commitment to alleviating suffering.
In Paraguay, Church members partnered with local volunteers to combat hunger in the Chaco region, where many families face food shortages. Additionally, in La Paz, Bolivia, a dedicated group of 238 volunteers gathered on December 7 and 8 to refurbish the José Soria Welcome Center. This effort, organized by the Miraflores Stake, involved cleaning and painting the facility, exemplifying the spirit of service inspired by Jesus Christ.
