At a press conference in Port Sudan, al-Amin stated, “We will submit a memorandum to the African Union and other international organizations, and we have escalatory measures against Kenya for its hostile positions toward Sudan.”
Among the proposed actions are economic sanctions, including the banning of Kenyan imports, as Sudan is one of the largest consumers of Kenyan tea. Al-Amin accused Kenya of facilitating RSF activities, which have been ongoing since mid-April 2023, leading to a violent struggle against the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).
In addition to the plans for a memorandum, the Sudanese official described the hosting of a signing ceremony in Nairobi for the RSF and its allies as “a hostile act and blatant interference in Sudan’s internal affairs.” He underscored that Kenya’s actions violate various international charters and agreements, asserting Kenya’s behavior as unacceptable.
The RSF and opposition groups in Sudan recently signed a founding charter in Nairobi aimed at establishing a parallel civilian government, intensifying the ongoing conflict that has already resulted in the loss of nearly 30,000 lives since April 2023, according to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data.
