On the third day of Aero India 2025, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh engaged in a series of bilateral discussions with Defence Ministers from Zimbabwe, Yemen, Ethiopia, Gambia, and Gabon in Bengaluru. The primary focus of these meetings was to bolster defence cooperation, enhance military training, and promote capacity-building initiatives between the nations involved.
During the discussion with Zimbabwe’s Defence Minister, Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri, the two officials reviewed their ongoing defence collaboration and expressed intent to expand efforts in military training and capacity building. They formalized their agreement through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which aims to strengthen ties and facilitate further cooperation in defence industry and military medicine.
In talks with Ethiopian Defence Minister Aisha Mohammed, both parties acknowledged the progress in their bilateral relations, culminating in the signing of a new MoU. This agreement institutionalizes cooperation in areas such as military training and peacekeeping efforts, while also exploring the opportunities for India’s private sector to contribute to Ethiopia’s defence industry.
The meeting with Yemen’s Defence Minister, Lt. Gen. Mohsen Mohammed Hussein Al Daeri, emphasized deepening military training engagements and capacity-building initiatives. The discussions were geared towards providing strategic direction for future defence collaborations, aiming to enhance Yemen’s military capabilities.
With Gambia’s Defence Minister Sering Modou Njie, the leaders reiterated their commitment to enhance collaboration in defence, focusing on capacity building and the exchange of expertise. They also noted the potential for increased cooperation in defence industry projects between the two nations.
The discussion with Gabonese Defence Minister Brigitte Onkanowa centered on reinforcing bilateral defence cooperation. Both ministers committed to advancing collaboration particularly in training and enhancing the capabilities of Gabon’s Armed Forces while examining opportunities within the defence sector.
The bilateral meetings held by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh during Aero India 2025 reflect India’s commitment to strengthening defence ties with several nations.
