On Tuesday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh engaged in bilateral meetings with the Ministers of Armenia, Malawi, and Madagascar during Aero India 2025 in Bengaluru. He met Suren Papikyan, Defence Minister of Armenia; Monica Chang’ Anamuno, Defence Minister of Malawi; and Lieutenant General Sahivelo Lala Monja Delphin, Minister of Armed Forces of Madagascar. These discussions aimed to enhance mutual defence cooperation and strengthen strategic ties between the nations.
Following the meetings, Mr. Singh reported on X that he had “productive discussions with Madagascar’s Minister of Armed Forces Lt Gen Sahivelo Lala Monja Delphin in Bengaluru.” He also mentioned an “excellent meeting with the Defence Minister of Malawi Ms. Monica Chang’ Anamuno,” where they concurred on expediting the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation. Additionally, he highlighted the significant advancements in defence relations with Armenia during a productive exchange with Minister Papikyan.
Earlier, while addressing the Global Investors Meet (GIM) 2025, Mr. Singh emphasized Bengaluru’s role in shaping India’s technological future. He asserted that the city is fundamental to India’s innovation trajectory, particularly in aerospace, being home to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. He also noted that Bengaluru is at the forefront of the nation’s economic progress and technological development, asserting, “This is a testament to how the Central and State Governments are collaborating, to shape the country’s economy.”
Mr. Singh noted that the current era in India is characterized by Cooperative Federalism, wherein both Central and State Governments collectively work towards common goals, exemplified by the Goods and Services Tax (GST) framework. He acknowledged the leadership experience of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his own tenure as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh as pivotal factors in enhancing this cooperative approach.
During the Defence Ministers’ conclave named “BRIDGE—Building Resilience through International Defence and Global Engagement,” Mr. Singh discussed the increasing unpredictability of global conflicts. He stated, “The increasing number of conflicts is making our world a more unpredictable place,” underscoring the fragile state of world order influenced by new power dynamics, weaponization methods, and the roles of non-state actors. Furthermore, he highlighted that transnational challenges such as terrorism, cybercrime, humanitarian crises, and climate change must be confronted collectively.
