India has sent a medical consignment to Equatorial Guinea, including 10 tonnes of anti-retroviral drugs and diagnostic kits for HIV/AIDS. India has dispatched a substantial humanitarian medical consignment to Equatorial Guinea, which includes 10 tonnes of anti-retroviral drugs, HIV/AIDS diagnostic kits, and symptomatic treatment medicines. This initiative, which emphasizes the strengthening of healthcare capabilities in Equatorial Guinea, commenced from New Delhi as reported by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The Ministry’s Spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, highlighted the mission through a post on X, stating, “Extending a helping hand to a Global South partner. A medical consignment carrying 10 tonnes of Anti-Retro Viral drugs, diagnostic kits for management of HIV/AIDS along with medicines for symptomatic treatment & supplements departed today from New Delhi airport for Equatorial Guinea.”
United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has acknowledged Equatorial Guinea’s considerable efforts towards achieving the 2030 Agenda. Nevertheless, the nation continues to confront significant structural challenges that complicate the full implementation of the agenda despite its relative prosperity.
India and Equatorial Guinea share a long-standing and amicable relationship, dating back to prior to Equatorial Guinea’s independence in 1968. India welcomed Equatorial Guinea’s establishment of a resident embassy in New Delhi in October 2015, reciprocating by inaugurating its embassy in Malabo in March 2019.
Subsequently, India’s first resident Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea, Man Mohan Bhanot, presented his credentials to President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasago in September 2019. In June 2020, India showcased its solidarity by providing medicines and medical equipment to Equatorial Guinea to assist in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
India has consistently extended humanitarian support to its global partners facing crises. Earlier in January, the country sent a consignment of 1,000 metric tonnes of sorghum to Lesotho to address pressing food security concerns. This reflects India’s commitment to meeting the needs of nations during difficult times.
