3.6 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Qalat, Balochistan, Prompting Public Concern

On Sunday, a 3.6 magnitude earthquake jolted Qalat in Balochistan at a depth of 33 kilometers. Residents reacted with panic but showed resilience by reciting religious verses. Previously, a 4.7 magnitude earthquake affected Sibi, and no casualties or damages have been reported from recent seismic events in the area.

A 3.6 magnitude earthquake struck the district of Qalat in Balochistan, Pakistan, along with its surrounding regions, as reported by ARY News on Sunday. The National Seismic Monitoring Centre confirmed that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 33 kilometers, with the epicenter located approximately 27 kilometers south of Qalat. In response to the tremors, residents exited their homes in a state of panic, reciting verses from the Holy Quran for solace.

Previously, the people of Sibi experienced strong tremors from a separate earthquake registering a magnitude of 4.7. This quake was noted to have a depth of 18 kilometers, with its epicenter situated 22 kilometers southeast of Sibi. It is worth mentioning that in July 2024, Khuzdar district in Balochistan was also jolted by an earthquake of magnitude 4.2, which originated near Turbat at a depth of 12 kilometers. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties or significant damage to property from these incidents. Residents have displayed their solidarity and faith by reciting Kalma-e-Tayyaba during these anxious moments.

Notably, in July, a magnitude 4.7 earthquake was felt in the Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, further emphasizing the seismic activity in the region.

Earthquakes are a prevalent natural disaster in many regions of the world, especially in Pakistan, where tectonic plate boundaries cause frequent seismic activity. The region of Balochistan, known for its geological instability, has experienced numerous earthquakes over the years, resulting in heightened awareness and preparedness among the local population. Seismic monitoring centers play a crucial role in providing timely information and safety measures to mitigate risks associated with earthquakes.

In summary, the recent 3.6 magnitude earthquake in Qalat, along with other seismic activities reported in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, highlights the ongoing geological challenges faced by the region. Despite the anxiety caused by such events, the absence of casualties or property damage is a positive aspect. The community’s collective recitation of prayers reflects resilience during these unsettling times.
