Witnesses, including local resident Dieudonne Mirimo Mahibdule, reported that the M23 announced their intent to liberate the area during a meeting held at a parish. Although the town’s center was reportedly calm, civilians sought refuge in the hospital amid prior gunfire, with reports of civilian injuries. Another resident noted ongoing clashes between M23 and Congolese forces prior to the capture of Masisi, highlighting the escalating tensions in the area.
