Anaergia Partners with PepsiCo for Biogas Technology Project in Colombia

Anaergia Inc. has contracted with PepsiCo Alimentos ZF LTDA to provide its biogas technology for a renewable natural gas project that will convert 50,000 tons of organic waste at PepsiCo’s Funza facility into RNG, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Assaf Onn, CEO of Anaergia, noted this is the third continent Anaergia is serving PepsiCo. Additionally, the company is involved in a substantial organic waste-to-RNG facility in California and enhancing a digester at Michigan State University.

Anaergia Inc. has secured a contract to supply its advanced digestion and biogas conditioning technology for a renewable natural gas (RNG) initiative led by PepsiCo Alimentos ZF LTDA in Colombia. This project will transform approximately 50,000 tons annually of organic waste from PepsiCo’s production facility in Funza into RNG, which will be utilized on-site, significantly reducing reliance on fossil fuels and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 3,700 tons of CO2 each year.

Assaf Onn, CEO of Anaergia, stated that this marks the third continent on which Anaergia is providing systems for PepsiCo. Previously, the company was awarded a major contract from Rialto Bioenergy Solutions LLC (affiliated with Sevana Bioenergy LLC) to manage an organic waste-to-RNG facility in California, which is the largest of its kind in North America. This facility is designed to convert up to 1,000 tons of organic waste daily into renewable energy and fertilizer, supporting California’s landfill diversion regulations aimed at reducing methane emissions.

In addition to these ventures, Anaergia has also been tasked with enhancing the anaerobic digester at Michigan State University’s facility, which processes food waste and manure to generate electricity for campus utilities. According to Mr. Onn, these initiatives reflect Anaergia’s commitment to promoting sustainable waste management solutions and advancing the global clean energy transition.

The increasing emphasis on renewable energy and sustainable waste management practices has led companies such as Anaergia to innovate and provide effective solutions in the field of biogas technology. By converting organic waste into renewable natural gas, these projects address both the need for renewable energy sources and the imperative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The collaboration with PepsiCo in Colombia reflects a growing trend where large corporations partner with specialized firms to enhance their sustainability practices and minimize their environmental footprint.

In conclusion, Anaergia’s recent contract with PepsiCo to implement biogas technology in Colombia exemplifies the company’s strategic approach towards renewable energy solutions. Through such initiatives, Anaergia not only contributes to PepsiCo’s sustainability goals but also plays a pivotal role in advancing renewable energy applications across different regions, all while helping to mitigate environmental impacts associated with waste disposal.
