His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and President Joao Lourenco of Angola oversaw the signing of a significant agreement and two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) at Al Alam Palace on Thursday, during the President’s official visit to Oman. The signed agreement includes acquiring a stake in Catoca and Luele mines, while the first MoU establishes cooperation in energy, and the second MoU focuses on strategic financial initiatives. Representing Oman, Abdulsalam bin Mohammed al Murshidi, Chairman of the Oman Investment Authority, spearheaded the signing, whereas the Angolan delegation was represented by Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Pedro Azevedo, and Minister of Finance, Vera Esperança dos Santos.
In attendance were members of the royal family, government ministers, military officials, and members of the Angolan delegation, underscoring the importance of these agreements. The official visit wrapped up on Saturday, with President Lourenco being seen off at the Royal Airport by notable officials, including the Oman’s Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, Dr. Rahma Ibrahim al Mahrouqi, and the Minister of Economy, Dr. Said Mohammed al Saqri, who also served as Head of Mission of Honour.
Angola and Oman have recognized the potential for strengthening bilateral relations through cooperation in various sectors, particularly in natural resources and finance. With Angola being rich in mineral resources such as diamonds and oil, investment from Oman could facilitate considerable economic development in both nations.
