Türkiye to Initiate Gold Production in Niger by 2025

Türkiye plans to start gold production in Niger in 2025, focusing on expanding its mining activities internationally and domestically. Recent discoveries of mineral deposits in Turkey complement efforts to enhance cooperation with Niger in the mining sector, aiming at sustainable development and increased investment.

Türkiye is set to commence gold production in Niger by the year 2025, as announced by Alparslan Bayraktar, the Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, during the Türkiye Mining Summit in Istanbul. He emphasized that Türkiye is active in mining operations across various regions, extending from Asia to Africa, to ensure a steady supply of raw materials. Currently, exploration is underway for different gold mines in Niger, with plans to initiate production at a site managed by MTA International Company, a subsidiary of Türkiye’s General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA).

In addition to the international efforts, domestic advancements have also been made, particularly with the discovery of significant mineral deposits in the Central and Western Black Sea regions. Minister Bayraktar noted that substantial copper reserves have been found and ongoing explorations are revealing promising deposits of molybdenum and critical minerals, thereby underscoring Türkiye’s abundant mineral resources. He pointed out the increasing demand for these materials, especially with the green transformation in energy and the pursuit of zero carbon targets.

Furthermore, in October, Minister Bayraktar and Niger’s Minister of Mines, Abarchi Ousmane, formalized a memorandum of understanding in Istanbul to enhance cooperation in the mining sectors of their respective countries. This collaborative agreement is designed to foster sustainable development and encourage investments from both public and private sectors into Niger’s mining industry. The officials underscored the importance of information sharing and prioritizing negotiations to facilitate mineral exploration and production.

The announcement by Türkiye to initiate gold production in Niger in 2025 marks a significant step in enhancing its international mining endeavors. Türkiye aims not only to secure raw materials for its domestic needs but also to build cooperative relationships with African nations in the mining sector. The recent memorandum of understanding signifies a commitment to support sustainable development, thereby ensuring mutual benefits between Türkiye and Niger.

The plans for Türkiye to begin gold production in Niger in 2025, coupled with discoveries of new mineral deposits domestically, highlight the country’s proactive approach in the mining sector. By fostering international collaborations, particularly with African countries, Türkiye aims to solidify its position in the global mining industry while pursuing sustainability and economic value through resource processing.
